Apartment in Lake Como, Italy

"A very cosy apartment in the middle of an old village. The distance to the Lake of Como was good to do. Dongo is a good place to swim. Rent a boot and you can see the lake from the other side or take the ferry."

"The holiday in Casa Barella was fantastic, the apartment had everything we needed to make our stay first class. Our standards are high and I can honestly say that we have not stayed anywhere better; the apartment was spotless and everything had been very thoughtfully put together and prepared. The people in the village were so kind to us: we can not speak Italian and they could not speak English but they made every effort to make us feel at home (The big orange pizza bar was stunning, in terms of view and food, so was the china bar where they took us outside to look at the amazing view, walks around the village were superb). We had one of the best days out at the trout farm as recommended in the folder. The lady over the road gave us home grown produce and the people in the supermarket free dishes! The bus driver down to Dongo was also very helpful. The whole experience was amazing and has made us more determined to learn Italian and to go back. It was so nice to be away from the tourists on the Lake. Weather was perfect including the mad storm on Thursday evening. What a lovely holiday, we only wish that we could have stayed longer and want to go back soon."

"We really enjoyed staying in the apartment - it was big enough and cool enough even when the weather got warm, and really well kitted out. The drive up from Dongo is interesting, but we got into the swing of Italian driving pretty quickly. Love the view of the mountains opposite, and we enjoyed Garzeno's alleyways and byways. Our pretty basic Italian (mostly nouns) was useful enough, but the villagers were really helpful anyway when we needed it in shops. The folder of activities is excellent too."

"Wow! We had the most amazing holiday; the apartment was so beautiful and spotlessly clean, and the view!!!!!! We really loved the village and soon slotted in to the pace and way of life – everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We went on spectacular four-hour walks up the mountains and into the woods, and down to the stream, which was very much needed with our ever-expanding waistlines! We ate like kings – our favourite restaurant in the area was Le Trave but we went on lots of trips out to test other eateries, and have bellies to prove it! We both said that this was our favourite holiday in Italy (where we go nearly every year) and we'd definitely like to return, but maybe for two weeks next time. The only down side was the coming home bit, where we got delayed at Malpensa for over six hours; getting home at 3.30am instead of 9pm. Still, it didn't cast a shadow over our wonderful holiday. Thank you to you for all of your brilliant correspondence and for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home."
